I have two plots - admittedly not 5 - but none the less took them in a right state when nobody else wanted them.

My three previous plots are now under buildings and so would my present site had not a few of us persisted when most plots around us were getting overgrown.

If they tried to wrestle a plot off me, there would be a little bit of a fight.

So rather than get annoyed at these tenants, maybe you ought to be thankful.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Might be worth you re reading the thread?  I got the plot whilst working for the old job, now this new job has come along, I am having to put some hours in, and it is as I have said already tempoary,

To be fair Dave, you've not actually said that on this post.

I said in one of my first posts, "Just now", that implies tempoary, or at least it did tome, sorry if I caused confusion.

I understand they have preserved them for the future that is great, but think what the waiting lists are like 300 people on the one I was on!  Rather than reaping the rewards of 2 whole plots, or more around me, maybe you should think what it must be like to have no where to grow veggies?

You obviously feel strongly on this, but so do I, and so does alot of people on my site.

Even worse is when these people are clearly struggling to even use half a plot.

What is sad, I think, is to see people who have worked hard for years at keeping a plot in good order and well used suddenly needing to leave because of ill health. Sensibly they finally decide to give up.

Sadder still is the mess the plot can end up in when some very new and enthusiastic person belts in for three or more whole days then vanishes for a few weeks... reappears for a day or two and then....... plot over grows as new tenant finds the challenge more than they anticipated.

Some people do not appreciate that there's more to it than good intentions and pretty seed catalogues. Making the very best of a plot all year round is hard slog despite being oh so very rewarding.

Good on those people who make productive use of their plot/s be it one or more.

What we need are more plots not more people kicked off the ones they have to meet the sudden upsurge in interest (long may it last!!)

So, it's "thank you for keeping things ticking over - here's your reward, we'll relieve you of a plot".

I don't think so!

Yes - I do feel strongly.

Had you considered handing half of your section over to help a plotless person out?

Hi

I have a half plot already yes!  :-)

You didn't expect that did you!  hehe

DD, I am sorry you feel that way, and even more sorry for all those people patiently waiting on the list.  :-(

Cheers

Dave

As I manage a long waiting list I see both sides of the argument.

However, allotment waiting lists are a relatively recent trend - less than 10 years ago my site had many empty plots.  People who have been around far longer than me will tell you that all these things go in cycles.

Although I would love to get my waiting list down I feel it is fundamentally wrong for those people who have patiently tended their plots over decades through thick and thin, to be forced off those plots when the latest fad dictates it.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Precisely the point I'm trying to get across.

How to generate even more resentment amongst plot-holders.

Half a plot already.....You had given the impression that you already had a plot when you said: " ......and so does alot of people on my site." So, no, not surprised.  ::)

I still wonder if you are willing to share what you have to reduce the waiting list. After all 1/4 plot would let someone else have a go at growing veggie wouldn't it if you feel so strongly.

I have a plot, you seem confused!  Just my plot is half the size of most of the others!  It seems clear enough to me   ::)  Hope that has helped clear up your confusion ::).  Doing it that way allows others to have a chance too

I think you are starting to get a bit silly, when you say why not give up another half of my half plot already, Especially when a chap next to me has 3 whole plots and hardly uses them.

I do feel strongly on the point, obviously you do to.  Learner, Have you given up parts of your allotment to others?

DD and Yorkie, you both have rights to oppinions and so do I, there should be no ill feeling over voicing these oppinions, DD I can sense tension in your posts, I will say no more on the matter.

Right I am on the way to another job now..

Cheers

Dave
