Gardener
« on: March 17, 2011, 18:41 »
Hi

I was thinking, how would I stand about getting my gardener to spend some time on my plot, helping to tidy it up.  Would that cause issues with an allotment site?  I don't want to loose the plot as will want it when work quietens down, but don't want it to go to rack and ruin.

I have more money than time at the moemnt!

Cheers

Dave

I wouldn't see a problem with that.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

If your happy to pay the money then i cant see any reason why not :)
If you want to be happy for a short time - get drunk.

If you want to be happy for a long time - fall in love.

If you want to be happy forever - take up gardening!

Hi

Thanks for the replies, I only ask as I have got someone doing just this on my plot, as I am too busy just now, and didn't want it to start looking messy.  I have had a complaint aparently from a fellow allotmenteer.

Cheers

Dave

You will have to check with your allotment authority - probably a council.  Our tenancy agreement states that:

The Council shall have the right to refuse admittance to any person other than the Tenant or a member of his/her family to the allotment garden unless accompanied by the Tenant or a member of his family.

If you break tenancy rules you could possibly get evicted.

They'd be moaning even more if you had let it get too weedy and run down  :nowink:

Dependant on when my 12+ hour days stop, and how soon the light evenings come! :)

It is a very close friend that is helping and no money is changing hands, but I was wondering if it would be better to say it was a gardener, I thought I was doing a good thing, making sure it was kept in good order, but yet again, no, yet more issues!   :(

It is definitely a good thing to keep the plot clean and productive or you may lose it.  It would be a good idea to check your tenancy agreement too.  It will tell you in there the detailed conditions of your tenancy.

The light evenings will be here soon and you'll be able to get digging again.  Do you tend your plot at the weekends ?

Not at the moment, due to the 12+ hour days I am working!  I have been twice in the last couple of weeks however, not for long, probably only half an hour each time.

Heck not many people work 7 days per week - that's over 80 hours.

If you can't see a time when you will  be free enough to tend it yourself why are you keeping it on ?

who or what makes you work 80 hours a week    :(  and what do you do with your days off im only asking cos im a retail manager working a 50-55 hour week and still get 12-14 hours on the plot  :)  i would never allow anyone to work on my plot other than myself or the wife if i did what would be the point of having an allotment? sorry if this seems a bit obtuse but it is a fair point

I have no difficulty putting week end guests to work in the garden ... or asking for some help when I get behind because of pressures at work, I don't see paying someone to help you "catch up" as being any different. You can still take all the credit though!
