It's usually possible to pick them off by hand.  As long as you're not talking about cabbages on a field scale of course.
While you're doing it, crush any eggs that you find.

If your not organic go down to your local garden centre and buy some pesticide thats suitable for crops. And spray.

We've had small bright green caterpillars on our brussel sprout plants. I think they are from cabbage white butterflies. I picked them off by hand and also inspected every leaf for eggs which are very small and yellowish in colour and rubbed these off as well. We have now put a net over the plants to stop the butterflies getting to the plants. So far it seems to be working :!:

My broccoli was decemated last year by these.  Went away on holiday to no visable eggs or damage and came home 2 weeks later to thousands of the things.  I reckon each leaf had between 50 and 100 caterpillars on it all at different stages of development.  I couldn't face handpicking them off so pulled the lot as they were beginning to look for other sources of food too, though it may be they were just falling onto other crops rather than actively seeking them out.  This year they are netted with small mesh with the hope they won't get attacked.  Good luck removing them.
