Hi, I want to start letting my chickens out into the garden.  So far I have been brave enough to open the run door and let them out a few metres into the garden and behind a haphazard chicken wire fence.  This will be improved with proper weld mesh fencing probably bought from ebay or the fencing from omlet.

I will be out with them everytime I let them out.  I also have 2 silkies.
As soon as I go to stroke them they run into the secure run and they haven't flown yet.   

Dotty my speckedly hen flew up to my arm and perched on it.     Scared me a bit incase she flies over the 6 foot fence.  It was great to give her a proper cuddle though!   

Should I clip their wings? I was planning to but it would be good if they could escape from any situation by flying back to the coop or into a tree. 

Its not a huge garden.  One side is a 6 foot fence, and the other side is a lower lattice type fence, so they could go into that garden and then into the next garden.  Neighbours said they would be glad for my chickens to eat their snails though.

I tend to clip any new birds the first time Then once the new feathers have re grown they know where they live and I never have a problem
