She loses all her fur on her back, gets heat spots and ends up red raw from scratching and rubbing herself on anything with an edge.

Sounds like over grooming to me Joy, my jack russell was exactly the same he licked and scratched until he was red raw, he's cost me hundred's down at the vet's through worry, but it's the equivelent of us lot biting our nails. Don't fret about it, walk her as much as you can (it worked for me and Jacko) and give her as much unprosesed food as you can (fresh (raw) meat is the best, don't do the dry food version, that's what send's them dolally). If you give her a treat give her lightly buttered toast cut into squares or soldiers don't give her the e number gravey bones etc.

We had had her checked out and it is an allergy to certain crops mainly barley, this year though we only have oil seed rape in the fields surrounding us and she is fine with that - surprisingly so was I this year and that usually sets of my hayfever and asthma (might be some new type ). Friends springer also has the same allergy.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Well i am pleased to report that Korma is pretty much back to her old self.  :)
Am still going to complete the course of mild pain killer prescribed by the vet, have a few more days worth left.

Today she managed to walk down the ramp without slipping, she was wandering around the garden, and when i got a corn on the cob she came running!  :D

Excellent. I cant believe the change in her in such a short time.

Walking ok

Tail feathers back up!

Standing Tall.

Tucking in!!

Been following your story, glad she is better now. Your 3 chickens look like 3 of my 4. Our 4th is a Bovan Nera.

Hi I've also been following your progress with your poorly girl and am so glad that she's well on the road to recovery. I was just wondering looking at your pics  how come you have lush grass in you garden? Admittedly i have 8 rescue girls and my garden now resembles a waste land were the grass used to be ??? Hope Korma keeps going in the rght direction

Nicky
Sometimes you have to accept that somedays you are the pigeon and somedays you are the statue!

Don't worry...i do have the odd bald patch where they scratch. But as soon as that happens i fence it off to with a bit of chicken wire to let the grass recover.
To be honest they have worked wonders to my lawn! I used to have lots of moss but they have raked that all out. Now i have thick lush grass that only the more intense scratching can damage.

I also employ the services of 'Greenthumb' who treat the lawn every 3 months. It works wonders.

As for Korma, she has fully recovered now. I have stopped giving her the pain killer prescribed by the vet as she is now walking without any limp.  :)
She is also back to her usual bossy self.

Thank you all so much for your advice help and support. Would not of known what to do without this valuable forum and its members.  :tongue2:
