Smile and say cheese
« on: February 13, 2009, 13:49 »
Well I learned a lot about how not to make cheese in the last two days.  It worked though, with mixed results.

The one on the left is the pressed, supermarket milk cheese.  The one on the right was the reconstituted dried milk and cream, it didn't really make good curds so I just let it drain in the muslin overnight.

The pressed cheese tastes fine, but the other one is bitter tasting.

The instrument of torture.

Cheese makes everything better.

I was bewildered after reading about how complicated cheese making is so I'm starting small and learning by trial and error.  Though more error at the moment.  Need to save up for a proper cheese press now.

Again well done. I've always been put off making anything more than cottage cheese because of the pressing.

Did you hear "The Food Programme" on radio 4 today all about cheesemaking, if not it's worth catching up on iplayer.
