Mincer/Sausage maker.
« on: February 15, 2009, 09:37 »
We are looking for a mincer to make sausages.

Have found the plastic type sold by Lakeland and others.

Also the cast iron tinned finish.

We're bothered the plastic type may split or break and only has a suction base.
Also, the tinned finish can flake off apparently.

And is a size 5 big enough to cope with normal use ?

As usual, we're on a limited budget so looking around the £20-25 mark.

Thanks.

Is this what you're after http://www.nisbets.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?SiteType=&productCode=J436
We've got one similar to that and had it for over 20 years so they're built to last. The cast iron ones don't flake off.

We've found a similar one on ebay. MINCER

Julie had heard that the tinning can flake on these sorts.

We're thinking mainly sausages but weren't sure if No.5 would give a good enough throughput.

Not a problem we've ever had but ours is ancient and not used it much of late. I think if I was buying a new one, I'd go for the Size 8 which they also have from the same place on ebay.

Just had a thought (I do occasionally!). Pretty sure Beetrootqueen bought one fairly recently and she may be able to tell you if there's a problem with flaking on the newer ones.

Thanks Val. I've PMd her for advice.

Will see if we can run to the No.8. MOT next week so may wait a bit longer  :(

I don't think we've got a Lidl nearby. Could be wrong. I'll look out for a kuba attachment and if you find out what it's for, we'll try making some  :D

Trouble is, funds are too limited to run to €49  :(

It'd be at least £40 equivalent I should think.

We'll wait until the MOT goes by and see what's left. :)

Strewth. Not far off parity  ???

And to think we used to look down on our eurozone brethren.

Wouldn't mind some of their buying power now  ::)

We got ours from Lidl, seem to remember it was around £30, that was just before Christmas I think.
