I'll try peas next year. Which variety do you grow DD ?

Oh good, a chance to re-post a piccie!

These are "Kelvedon Wonder", but next year I'll be growing a lot of heritage peas that I raised for a seed crop this year.

Thats impressive,I notice that they are supported by two lines of string nothing else??looks about 12" appart ?
Did you start them of under cover, how big were they when you transplanted
Im going to try toilet roll inners to start this year.

I started mine off on the window sill in loo rolls and it worked a treat. They were probably about 8 inches high when I planted them out in mid-June. I forgot to harden them off (it's my first year growing!) but they were fine.

All I had at the time was the bit of chicken wire, so that was my support, but it wasn't high enough in the end and I had to improvise with lots of canes and string to try and prop them up as the wire collapsed under the weight of them.

I will be using DD's 'stakes and string' method next year.
Sal

Organic...so far!

Cover? Transplant?

Nay lad - chucked straight in. I'm not transplanting 4 x 32' rows of peas!

Only cover they had was netting to keep the birds off when germinating.

The twine is a bit closer than 12", but I think you've got the drift!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Try tripling up the rows next time, Sal, you'll get more for the same space.

Sowed two rows Early April, another two rows a fortnight later.

Started picking the second lot only about 5 days after the first. They always catch up!
