Hi I have just put my garlic in and I put it in my raised beds which has been manured bout 5 month ago with more  compost and its been all dug in. Is the manure going to rot the garlic? I just read it shouldn't have been put in to freshly manured ground, but how long ago is freshly?  Have I made a boo-boo or do you think the garlic will be ok.

it will be fine, im currently manuring for next years spuds and it will be only 6months when they get planted.5 months is plenty of time for it to rot  into the soil.dont panic

How can you tell when it has well rotted? Does all the straw break down, or is it just the poo??? We have a pile of chicken poo and not sure how long we need to leave it to rot down.

Also, can we put fresh chicken manure onto one of our beds that is going to be planted in spring to rot down there, either by digging in or leaving on the top.  

Which veggies do not need manure? I can't remember.

Some need more than others, but the only ones that don't like it are carrots and parsnips IIRC.

Yes, and I'm using well rotted manure for my alliums.

Well rotted is when it does not smell and looks rather like compost.
