I have two cobs on most of my supersweet corns and three on some.  The silky bits (tassles???) are just starting to look matted and going brown.  How long do I wait before trying to peel back their little coats?

Hi Vineweevil ,  you can check your cobs at any time by gently peeling back a bit of their jacket and sticking your finger nail into a piece of the corn to burst it over your nail , if the liquid is clear they are not quite ripe , you are after a nice milky yellow colour . We had our first few a week ago and they were fantastic , this is our first year growing and I still am amazed we can grow stuff like that and so easily , it's been the least hassle plant on the patch . You've done very well getting 2 or 3 cobs per plant , we only managed 1 and the odd one 2 . Good luck with yours and let us know how they tasted !!

Thanks,  I might stop by tonight and have a look at the one with the most brown tassles.  I thought about it last night but they look very tightly wrapped and I didn't want to do any damage by peeling back their Jackets!
