Cucumber question
« on: July 19, 2008, 18:44 »
Evening all,

I've got several cucumbers in the greenhouse. Some are doing fine; with others, the plants are reasonably healthy but the fruit is dying. Sometimes at about 1-2" long the cuke turns yellow and softens; other times the fruit dries and turns black at about 1". Watering and feeding are consistent with all plants so I don't think that's the problem. Could this be a problem with cross-pollination between varieties?

THanks for any help,

Digger

Drafts, over watering or poor drainage is the most likely reason.

Removing damage fruit and give the plants a foliar feed.  If the soil is wet don't water for a week or until it dries out a bit.  Make sure the greenhouse is well ventilated but not drafty and damp the floor down.

Thanks Aunt Sally. I'll try all that. The odd thing is that plants alongside each other and treated exactly the same are behaving completely differently. Digger.
