am converting a 4ftx2ft rabbit hutch into a home for 2 bantams. i have added a 2ftx2ft nest box to the rear. the main issue i have is with perches. as the hutch is only 2ft tall i can only put the perch around 3in off the bottom of the hutch, will this be high enough? i am also building a 3mx2m run which will be partially covered. they will have the run open to them all day and allowed to free range when possible. any advice gratefully recieved

the other choice i have is to convert my sons old plastic playhouse. is twice the size of the hutch at least but not sure if it would be suitable?

I don't think there will be any problems with havign a low perch. There's no guarantee they'll use it, but at least it's there !

Could you post up any photos at all if you're unsure ?

The playhouse might be suitable but the hutch should be ok providing the open mesh, etc is covered and there are no draughts but plenty of ventilation at roof level.

I converted a hutch and did the same low perch. they were fine and perched happily. I didn't make boxes for nesting just closed up the mesh with wood - if you search on here you'll find pics from me, and also freecyclegardener did a hutch conversion though his was a double.

You could use hook on bird feeders/water containers on the inside mesh to give access to water and shell/feed if you like too.

I cut a pop hole and made a ramp that locked up at night closing the hole..
