Silkie with issues
« on: August 05, 2015, 15:03 »
Hi all - my silkie hen is approx 12 weeks and seemed in good health apart from she seemed strange / not like a normal chick - if you could say a chick had maybe a tile short she had it but I couldn't put my finger on what is was -
Today she got up as normal and did a face plant in the bed and looked like she'd had a stroke !
I put her back to bed and she's picked up during the day but not eaten or drank anything
She's standing ok - shows no form of paralysis / but she doesn't move about - she's stretching her wing and legs as normal
She has had coecal type poos always and has never been normal
I hatched her from an egg so I know her history and she's in a flock of 8 4 all vaccinated the other four all hatched together

Any thoughts would be gratefully recieved
I'm thinking see how she is in the morning and then review options ???
if wishes were changes.......

Silkies are prone to brain problems as part of their brain is exposed by their vaulted skull.

There's not much you can do other than keep them safe and see if they recover.

Well she is upright and still refuses water and food - how long can a chick go on without water ? 😒😒

You could try gently dribbling some water into her beak using a pipette or syringe. :)
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!

I've done that but she's catatonic :( it felt cruel to give her the water she didn't want to take it - I'm trying to give her best chance before I take her to be pts
