hens eat layers pellets or mash momo, we give pellets as they are less messy, but some people give the mash as it takes the hens longer to eat mash and the thought is that they get less time to get bored and maybe start pecking each other!  Give the layers in the morning, then late afternoon, a couple of hours before it gets dark, give each hen a handful of mxd corn, as the corn takes longer to digest, so it digesats slowly while the hens are roosting at night.  and yes, they like fruit and veg, Munty always extols the virtues of lots of cabbage leaves, helps gets nice yellow yolks.

and in the winter, I boil up my veg peelings til nice and soft, then keeping a little of the cooking water with them, stir in some cheap ready brek or porridge, the hens love that as a treat on a cold winter afternoon.  

I also hang old CD's up both in and sometimes outside the house, as they like pecking at them and they like the light shining off the CD's especially if the sun catches them.  Helps stop them getting bored too.  Some people like giving them different things to play with or climb on, but mine seem quite happy as they are.

I haven't had the feather pecking with the Babcock's (touch wood!)  that i had with the white Amberlinks!!!!!
