Got some FBB in to the beds today and will add in some well rotted manure at the weekend, now covered with black plastic to bring the temp up, sowed chilli, peppers, tomotoes and cucumber today and they are on the window ledge being encouraged by me already. Its a happy day thinking of all that we have sown, the anticipation of but such a relaxed day despite of all the challenges to come, the first seed sowning of the year brings happiness and thinking with in the month of the direct sownings to come. I'm happy

We have planted some broad beans we started out indoors, we have a few different seeds sown this month and are eagerly watching to see what grows. It’s our first year where we properly get to sew seeds, we only got our allotment in May last year so had to buy quite a few plug plants. This year I may have gotten a bit over enthusiastic with the seed order, especially peas where I have enough for a family of 20!

Good weather forcast this weekend so hoping to put up plastic walk in greenhouse and erect plastic cloches so can start broad beans, beetroot and spring onions and planting a couple seed spuds in containers in the cold greenhouse hoping for early crop. Decidede to take the summer off this year so hope we get some good weather so I can spend lots of time on the plot :)

Dug over 5 beds this afty. Despite them all being on the same (downhill) side of the garden, all had different digging characteristics, with 2 of them borderline claggy and the others breaking down beautifully. The midweek downpour hasn't helped matters. The difference in "diggability" seems to be directly related to the amount of sharp sand that has been applied to the individual bed, so the sticky ones will be getting a bit extra before the spuds go underground. Beautiful day, mind!

Fix a side of one of my raised beds that had dropped a little, just a realign of the bracket and tightening of the screws
Did the final preparation on my first and second early potato raised beds Friday and Yesterday.
Prepared the beds and laid out the sticks for the peas in their bags and raised beds.
Planted out more broad beans.
Divided and transplanted some of the chives.
Planted out Parsley that has was sown from seed in spare room a month back.
Divided last years parsley plants and transplanted for its second biennial year.

Put in the first beautifully chitted early potato crop of Sally and Nicola in one of those raised beds.
Will be dong the Charlotte and Duke of York on Monday in the other raised bed and a few potato bags.

Made a good mix of compost, multicompost and some of the previous potato bag soil in a big pile for going into the maincrop potato bags in a months or so time.

Greenhouse needed the door 'fresh air' homemade mesh cover on with that 17.5°C we had yesterday. Temp in greenhouse was a nice 30-35°C for most of the day.
Plants and seedlings needed a good watering and spraying in there too.

Today will be cleaning out all the larger pots that will have the next stage of tomato plantings in a months or more time.

Conservatory getting pretty hot with all this sunshine. Going away for a few days so decided the best option for the early spuds was to plant them down at the plot. Also added a few more strawberry plants to the bed which has been ravaged a bit by rabbits! Mentioned the problem at our allotment AGM last week, hopefully someone will be able to tackle them with ferrets!
Keep digging
