Updated - Getting ready for our girls

I promised on a different thread that I would post pics of our progress in getting the garden ready for our chooks. This will be the story (with pictures) from the beginning.

Our garden is huge about 130ft including patio.

This is what our garden looked like about a month ago (picture taken from edge of patio). Down the end a bit of a jungle with HUGE brambles and nettles. We removed the brambles, nettles, weeds and buried rubble that the previous owner kindly left for us, including a burried matress (dirty swines), dug over the patch, again and again and again to get rid of all the bramble roots and other debris.

We have worked really hard and even our next door neighbour helped us out last weekend, Bless him. So this is what it looked like a few days ago.

And... this is where we are up to now.

We drove around our local industrial estates last week and asked if they had any pallets going spare, to our surprise, and delight we were given enough to build a decent sized coop. So our girls new house will be made from recycled wood too. How GREEN are we LOL.

So this week we will be mostly be building a coop (UK weather permitting).
More pics to follow.
If you don't buy free-range, CLUCK OFF

We have slogged our hearts out me and the OH to get this far, the thought of rescuing our girls is what is driving us through the blistered hands and aching backs. We are totally driven. Every spare moment is spent on doing what we can to give a better life to at least 10 ex-bats. I, sorry WE are sooooooooo excited. Can't wait. Will keep you all posted on our progress.

Thanks for all your lovely messages. We probably won't have many pictures this week as we are still breaking up the pallets. Soon as any construction begins the pics will be here. PROMISE  :D

Just caught up with this thread Niccid.

Brilliant job in the garden. Obviously lots of sweaty hours put into that.

And fantastic coop. Nothing's going to chew through that !!

Can't wait to see more pics. The weather is not supposed to be good here today, so I'm guessing not much better there.
Keep doing what you're doing.
