The balance between Frost and Blight is always a difficult one as far as I am concerned.      Last year we moved from Late Winter to Summer in a few days it meant the soil warmed up but had sufficient moisture to promote great and sustained growth.     Spuds last year were the best ever and Blight was later making it easier all round.    I may chance putting spuds in this weekend, some are already in pots in the unheated Greenhouse then again I may wait another week.     Just to add a very common problem for most of us at this time of the year there is only really enough light to allow me to get to the Allotment at the weekend, work Monday to Friday, so the decidions when to plant tend to be dictated by such as well as the other factors.      Finger crossing doesn't work but doesn't do any more harm!
Do you really need al that lettuce/

Planted first earlies (Rocket) on Sunday. Will leave it a few weeks before planting second earlies (Charlotte) and a little longer before planting maincrop (Cara and Sarpo Mira). I'll keep an eye on the weather, earth up as necessary and have fleece at the ready in case of prolonged frost forecasts. But then, I'm a newbie at all this, and am largely just following various books, most of which contradict each other! But I like to experiment.

Mine are in - they take while until the leaves surface. By then the frost risk is greatly reduced, plus I make sure I earth up if there maybe a frost. I save compost bags to use as emergency covers if there is a late frost in May. Seems to do the trick. I think it is worth getting them in now if you can take basic precuations against frost, but if not wait another 3 weeks or so.
