I won't bother earthing mine up as they have been very slow to show through and I still only have a few just showing at all. They were all planted pretty much the same depth and I did earth up straight afterwards. I'm wondering if most have rotted in the ground now. They are Accent and I think they were supposed to be ready in ten weeks. They have been in for six weeks. They have a hell of a lot of growing to do or there is a lot going on underground if they are still alive.

I don't think anything this year will be ready on time. The weather has been against us so far apart from. That one week so far.

The temperature here this morning was 1 degree at 6am and there is a light frost on some of the cars. It was clear skies here from 10pm so I can believe it was 0 degrees a couple of hours ago.

Much the same here, there is certainly a frost! Don't think I dare go look at my potatoes as they are certainly damaged! Why does it happen on a Wednesday when I'm not around inthe evening to take any precautions!

If frost does get them, it will only knock them back, not kill them dead.

Same happened with my Lady C's a few years ago with a June frost. (This is why I'm never early with things and often cringe at what's being planted out in early May).

They recovered and I had a good crop, albeit a little late. I may have some piccies somewhere.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Here we go.

The damaged haulms, with re-growth:

a few weeks later:

The harvest:

So don't panic too much, if the worst happens now, you'll just be a little late!

I had frost this morning - so glad I covered everything up  :D Fingers crossed that'll be the last we see of that old boy Jack this season! (Well in the south at least). Anybody else got caught out last night?

I will go take a look at them this evening!  I feel better about them already though - and best of all the sun in shining (at the moment...)

Wasn't going down the garden this morning anyhow, didn't really have time and I would have only gotten my feet wetter and colder than they already were (maybe I should go for wellies rather than crocs and bare feet on mornings such as these when walking across the grass)!!!

My ones in the coldframe looked good so I'm hoping they will be my early crop :)
(yum... I just can't wait!!!)

Hannah :)

p.s. at least nothing else has been planted out yet... the cold frame, growhouse and conservatory are all bursting though

So you don't care about anyone who's not in the south then?  ;) Nope, minimum +6° C here last night.  :tongue2:
