So how big are your pitato plants now?

My earliest homeguard are about 8inches after being fully earthed up
Lady c ranging around 6 inches or less.nice round leaves
Kestrel 8 inches or slightly less .looking healthy
Desiree few inches high

Strong winds have broken a few leaves really annoys me

Earlies and Maincrop both through, and about 4-5 inches high.
When weeding, the best way to know if its a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull it.

If it comes out easy, it was a valuable plant !

Yes - they're all through now - just have to hope there is no more frost.
They're earthed up as much as pos.

I only have two or three showing above ground but I'm not too fussed at the moment.  They went in and were earthed up immediately as it was cold, so some may be sending out shoots looking for the light still!

I am reasonably hopeful of three full rows with no gaps  ???

In another week or two I may be a bit more worried, but hopefully now we are getting a sprinkling of rain it might start things off.

That was my point in the previous post to yours. No, not for the whole country. I saw the same Countryfile and the presenter's hand was waved somewhere vaguely over the midlands and east of England.

Thank goodness for that, I had visions of a mad dash to earth up the spuds. Honestly nearly sent me into early labour

Further to that, I'd check today's forecasts as they have changed quite a bit since Sunday.

According to Metcheck the forecast is 0 degress at 3am tomorrow morning here in Newcastle Upon Tyne. I'll head to the plot after work and earth up mine. They just started poking through so it seems mean to freeze em off straight away.

I have never checked or used met check before but it seems to imply we are predicted a frost tonight and tomorrow  or am I reading that wrong. It all looks a bit complicated for me.

Guess we'll be doing a mad dash tonight to earth up and cover up.  ???
