Victoria Plum Tree
« on: July 06, 2011, 14:16 »
My son and I have just taken over a  plot (2 weeks) and inherited a victoria plum tree which has been left to it's own devices for about 18 months.   The plums are looking very green very mis-shapen and very neglected any advice on how to return this tree to it's previous glory (as told by other allotmenteers)  Jenny  :(

September is too late to prune a plum tree. It should be done in June when growth is at its best so that the cuts heal quickly and prevent the ingress of silverleaf disease.

Any day above ground is a good day.

Yes that tree needs to be pruned ASAP. I would ask some of the more experienced allotmenteers on the site for pruning advice and perhaps one might volunteer to do it for you, you never know.
I`m left handed, what`s your excuse?
