Water tank advice needed
« on: November 29, 2010, 10:31 »
Can anyone give me advice on where our alloments can get some dipping tanks that don't cost the earth.

We are trying to replace and put in additional water tanks but the ones that we have found are around £280-£300.

Any info would be very welcome :)

I don't understand what you mean by "Dripping Tanks", but would standard horse troughs do with a concealed ball cock to keep the water level up?   Cheers,   Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

I assume a dipping tank is something you fill watering cans from by dipping them in ratehr than by a tap -- like an old fashioned fire fighting water tank or the troughs kept in farmyards for watering stock. Could you make one like an elevated pond -- walls of sleepers with a pond liner ??????
Is safety of children an issue ?????????????

Do you know any tame builders or plumbers. An old bath with a ballcock where the overflow was would do the trick.

We have an old cold water tank which is situated close to the greenhouses and my shed, and all gutters from these leads straight into the tank, is that what you mean? I don't know where it came from, but its brilliant :D

Blue barrel, cut in half. hole drilled on top edge to take a £15-£20 ballcock from the plumbers merchant. All in around £50-ish.

Looking for Tanks  2.5 ft high approx by 3-4 ft long pref. metal, so yes Horse trough type
would do. This is not for personal use but for plotholders in general on the site so has to be able to stand a lot of wear and tear

Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.
