peach and plum tree curly leaves
« on: May 23, 2016, 16:08 »
i have just noticed that my peach tree seems to be suffering from curling leaves. they did this at the end of last season but i thought i'd see if it carries on, which it obviously has.

there seems very few leaves on the tree compared to my other fruit trees, but the branches and main trunk do look nice and healthy. i can't see any pests or damage to the tree.

something similar is also happening on a small scale to my apricot and plum trees that are near bye.

has anyone got any ideas?

thanks

There are a couple of leaves that look like peach leaf curl. If the leaves are galled and blistered as well as twisted  you need to remove them and destroy them asap. Leaving them will 1. increase the spread 2. Weaken the tree causing possible death in the long term.

All the stone fruits are susceptible to peach leaf curl.

There is no chemical control available. Once it is there removing and burning the leaves is the best course of action.

The fungal spores are carried in rainwater so you can cover your trees with a rain tent to keep the rain off in the spring. Avoid any pruning until mid/late summer.

It used to be bordeaux mixture but it is now a banned substance. I don't know of anything that has successfully replaced it.
