My Mum is just in the process of starting to keep bees and I think the advice she would give to anyone is to contact your local beekeeping association. They have loads of information, run courses, hire equipment to beginers, provide spare nuclei. She's been going to a course they run and has bought her hive and is just waiting for bees now - national shortage - all very worrying but she is loving it and very excited about her bees to be.

Am definately planning on some of my own when I have the space. Probably won't bother with the course and all - Sending Mum for that and going to hire her to teach me the ropes
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.
