Work the manure into the planting hole, then plant the crown, but not too deep. Water well and be patient for 2 years.

after I forced my Rhubarb a nice old boy at my allotment told me to throw grass clippings on it to revive it  ...I did it and it's a lovely stong plant now and that's all it's ever had. from staggly little thing to triffid that wants splitting up or forcing again next year

I just keep mine mulched with grass clippings. I keep my good stuff for more expensive to buy crops.

I might be ploughing a lone furrow here (looks like it anyway) but if your rhubarb is in it's first o'r second year some feed with the water wouldn't do it any harm at all and would help it establish well so you can reap the benefits in the coming year's.Something with a bit of nitrogen will help it develop a lot of big leaves which is what you wan't with a young plant.
