Actually, this year I've been experimenting with growing a range of difference veggies in my tunnel, including roots and brassicas, and they've done very well in there. They grew much better than my outside brassicas. That could just be because this summer hasn't been all that warm, I guess. But I rashly didn't net them and I can confirm that cabbage whites are just as happy to lay eggs on brassicas in a polytunnel as they are outside

Debris netting does the job where butterflies are concerned, and is cheaper that fine mesh too
