Saying that, if it was worthwhile, there would be a machine for just that...

The theory is, if you nip off the flowers then the plant wont seed and will use its resources in the tuber rather than on the flower or seeds therefore giving bigger tubers. I do it but I am not sure that it works. I doubt if it makes a huge difference to the size of your crop but then anything that does contribute to even a small increase in crop size or quality is probably worth it.

I also water my spuds - not the greenery but the soil - with comfrey tea regularly and I do think that makes a big difference in crop. The comfrey tea feeds the soil which feeds the crop. As Munty says 'werks for me'!

Considering that certain varieties don't produce any berries/seeds, it can prove a real waste of time...
