hi starting to harvest potatoes also pulled up 6 cauliflowers yesterday so now have some room is it to late to sow beetroot ? how long does it need to grow to a usable size? would it be best to sow direct or in 3inch pots? if i'm to late any other thoughts on what to plant for harvest this year.

Some of my packets reckon you can sow up to the end of July.  I'd sow direct rather than pots first, saves disturbing them again.

they won't get to huge sizes, but they are better smaller anyway!   I'd say go for it!  I've also just sown some black kale some spare areas in my brassica cage and maybe in the polytunnel.

That's right, but if you have too much leftover, beetroot seed is viable for about 5 years I think.  Some of mine is 5 years old, but the germination wasn't as good this year.

I may start fresh next year!

My beetroot ( the last batch) has jst gone up is about an inch high, they are in large tubs.

I haven't sown any yet and am planning on putting some in where the onions are coming out this week. I think we'll just have to make sure to water them regularly

Print off all the recipes on here for beetroot and you'll soon be begged for more of them.
I boiled a pan of real tiny beets the other day, it was like eating sweets.

Have just made the last outdoor sowing, if they don't come to anything by winter you can always eat the tops. Will be making another sowing in the greenhouse border next month.

I think they are in my top three veg. Been picking some real beauty's lately. Grated raw, a pinch of sugar, a few shakes of vinegar and a couple of mint leaves chopped up. Can't get enough of the stuff.
