Treadle Feeders Advice Please
« on: August 08, 2009, 22:03 »
Evening all,

I've been thinking about the way we feed our chickens, currently use a trough, which all 12 girls love to do with no issue. However were moving to the countryside so vermin will become an issue I expect.

So started looking at Treadle Feeders but there seams to be two types one with a solid base and a mesh base (base = tread plate).

So the questions are:

1. Is there a reason to choose 1 type over an other?
2. How do you find having 12 girls eating out of one small feeder?
3. Do you need to keep them under cover since they can be used out doors?

Thinks thats it but they do seam good.
Graham = 2x Border collie Dogs, 2x Cats, 1x Wife, 2x Kids, 2x Hamsters and now 10x chickens.

No worries FCG I'm just put an offer in on a house in the Vale of Evesham. Its a forced move with work and nothing I could do but hey may mean I can increase the veg plot and also rent some land of the local farmer who is not using the field behind for the house (but that will be another question on what is land rental cost likly to be!)

Anyway no probs.

sorry never used one, but I think some of them are not suitable for bantams as they aren't heavy enough.
Staffies are softer than you think.
