Treadle feeders and injuries?
« on: January 18, 2011, 08:49 »
I am thinking of buying a treadle feeder and am looking for advice from those who already use one.  I don't mind if I get one of the conventional feeders or one of the grandpa ones, just want whatever will do the job.  However, I have concerns about whether hens/cockerels have suffered injuries from lids dropping down etc.  I have heard some people mention that their large cockerels are cutting their combs on the lids and I have two large cockerels and don't want them hurt.  I know you shouldn't use them with chicks (and so will remove it in the Spring when I get a few more chicks, until they are larger)  I actually prefer the look of the grandpa feeder as I think it looks easier for the birds to access.  Anyway, will await your input.  Thanks.
