mixing chicks with hens- Feed query

OK, am i being stupid?  I wont be offended if you say yes.

I want to put my chicks and broody with the other hens but how do i go about feeds.  I usually leave both chicks and hens to eat ad lib with feeders with rain hats.  If i do mix all together how do i stop the chicks going for the layers pellets over their current chick crumb/growers pellets.

Shall i just keep the chicks seperate for another 10 weeks until layers pellets can be fed, interested to know how all the seasoned chickeneers go about it.
