Advice needed please..
« on: October 28, 2020, 20:56 »
So.. I have a question re conifer trees that I need some advice with..  I had a tree cut down a week or two ago and I'm in the process of building a raised bed approx 4m long x 1.2m wide x 1m high. My question is, can I put the logs in the bottom, then the brash on top of the logs to half way before adding well rotted manure & top soil to the top half. I'm just wondering how it might affect the top soil?

Conifer needles are acidic, but their effect on soil is debatable.

There is some RHS advice here.

https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=979

It is talking about mulch and if you scroll down, there is a paragraph on conifer waste, but the same general principles would apply to what you are proposing to do.  If all your wood waste is buried in a raised bed, you should not have issues.
