Molting Hen
« on: November 19, 2008, 21:07 »
My Son has told me that 1 of his chickens has died, and that one of the remaining 2 is now molting to the extent that she is now almost completely bald, and he is worried about her dying of hypothermia,

Is this usual for hens to molt when it is getting cold, or might she being be grieving for her lost pal, or is it something else.  Any help to save her would be appreciated.  Mrs Bouquet. Thanks

A couple of mine are still moulting Mrs B, they look a little "oven ready"

If you can give her some extra protein (cat food is good) it will help with the re growth, also extra corn before bed time helps them keep warm :D

Sarah :)

The girls pinched some of my chips the other day when I wasnt looking.

Will bear in mind the fishy cat food to perhaps build up some of my oven ready bats.

Thanks for your replies, I have passed the info on.  Apparently she is perking up, or do I mean pecking up   Her feathers are starting to grow and she now looks a bit like a porcupine.  Thanks again.  Mrs Bouquet
