Just had a squirt at two of my girls as they both have red patches because of moulting, one of her wings and one on her breast.  They struggled and I now have gentian violet all over one hand.  OK, both hands   

How long does it take to come off and, also, how long will I have purple chickens for?

Feel a bit silly now as it was obviously not going to come off easily and I should have been a bit more careful...

Fantastic! My daughter has her induction session at her school tomorrow and I am going to be there, with all those skinny yummy mummys in their Porsche Cayennes, not just now The Fat One but now The Fat One With Purple Hands!  And with only an Audi.

I think I might cry.

You can take it off with nail varnish remover and then wash your hands wiht soap and water.  I swear my husband used to see how much he could get on me when we were spraying the hens.

I'll give it a go Debz, thank you so much.  I think I made the mistake of trying to do it on my own - it is really a job for two pairs of hands.  Wearing gloves, preferably!

Oooh no, heatherw, I wouldn't want you to get the wrong impression - my little girl is going to the local state primary school, even though Buckinghamshire is positively crammed to its borders with expensive private schools.  Wish we could afford it as there are some bloomin' good ones around here.  But even our local primary has a posh lot (as I guess all schools do, but made worse by our fairly close proximity to a couple of villages with all the houses the size of Buckingham Palace) and I am a bit scared of those skinny Boden-clad types...

I guess they're going to like me even less when I tell them all about my chickens!
