Is Violet....Victor!?

OK.....not a happy bunny....think I know the answer to this but.....

Can/does a hen make the call (cock-a-doodle-doo!!)

I thought I heard a call a couple of weeks ago and this morning Claire, my OH, went to let them out at which point Violet/Victor jumped up and gave a cock-a-doodle-doo!!

PLEASE tell me the Hen I bought is NOT a Cock..... :?

What's the normal situation here, I bought her from someone as a hen! Do people expect exact sexing when buying hens or is it a 'tough luck' situation? Should I contact the seller and get an exchange/new hen?

 :(  :(  :(  :(  :(  :(  :(  :(  :(  :(  :(  :(  :(  :(  :(  :(  :(  :(  :(  :(  :(  :(  :(

Sounds like you got a boy, did you buy as pol ?

If it were me I would contact the seller especially if you were told it was a hen.

Is there any reason why u can't keep a cock??

Photo would be helpful, then we could be more definate :)

COCK COCK COCK COCK COCK!!!  :x

I bought him....3 weeks ago? approx. and was told (s)he was about 17/18 weeks

I bought him as a hen POL or close to, so think I should get in touch with the seller - he's local so 'should' sort it for me.

I'm GUTTED...I love this bird, he's really funny and tame - jumps onto my head/shoulders!! But because I live in a terraced house I had to make the decision to a) keeping bantams only and b) not to keep cockerals. Otherwise the neighbours would all kick up a fuss - at least with hens you can placate them with the eggs!

SO SO SO not happy......

Oh dear. It sounds like a boy but I have a hen that once crowed and I nearly passed out with shock!

She lays a nice egg still but has boy tendencies from time to time!
I will say she is 4 years old and a nasty bullt too.

I would contact the seller asap.

Got that boyish look about him  :?

He is lovely though, can't you bribe the neighbours with eggs so you can keep him?

If you make sure his coop is really dark he might only cocka doodle doo in the day time and not over night

Have you got any other pictures Mick ?

A sidways shot to see how s/he stands and the shape of his/her tail, can we see the legs or are they feathery. One of the feathers on her/his neck would be good too.

Bet s/he's not laid an egg though

If you got that from North Wingfield they'll swop it for ya. Don't think they'd get em mixed up though

One of my hens makes a right racket though, she honks like a ruddy duck. Dead loud    but she lays eggs though so no doubts about her but when I first heard her I thought I'd got a male  :D

Sorry Aunt Sally...no pics but I do have this video from a week ago! NTB9xEC27Tc

Oh...and (s)he has feathered feet!

you'll probably get a better look at him/her.....and no....no eggs, gutted...was expecting her/him to start laying in the next few weeks!  :(

I didn't get the chuck from Wingfield compost queen, pretty sure they have it all sewn up and would be cool about swapping - although, wouldn't imagine they'd get it wrong!

Oh....how gutted am I....I really loved this chuck

You think there may be a chance she just likes the sound of her own voice...oh...wait...OF COURSE SHE'S A GIRL if she likes the sound of her own voice!

So, do you think I should keep hold of her for a few weeks, see if the eggs start coming?  :?

I've e-mailed the seller told him (s)he's been calling...

I'd let a few of the more experienced chicken people here watch that video before doing anything drastic !  Or ask the supplier to have a look at her(him) and give an opinion.

See if you can video her and post it while she "crows".  She might just be a gobby girl  (one of mine is)
