You got some wire for the top?  We had some chicks here for a while that hatched at school and they were jumping out a lot so had to put some wire on top to secure them in.  Lots of food, they eat tons and get ready to be changing the water all the time they kick sawdust everywhere.

Good Luck, they are so cute :)

Richy - are all ex layers good to eat, just wondering?

Can't wait to see them --- just a litle thing which we noticed when we had them indoors was the distinct faint 'chicky' smell, even when we cleaned them out loads. If we had kept them longer they would have been in the outhouse I think.
Don't let that put you off  :D

We used sawdust as it is more absorbent for little poos

no idea 1st time I've eaten them, I imagine they will only be fit for the slow cooker, but we'll see

You can get that rubbery bath stuff, I can get it over here but not sure what its called in the UK. It stops them slipping, its washable and doesnt smell like sawdust does.
Handle them a lot, they like snuggling into your neck and if you make a domey iglooy shape with your hand the shove their little heads in and stick their little bums out its soooo cute, or they end up like this

I got some grippy stuff, sold in a roll, supposed to be for stop ornaments from slipping off shelves and things whizzing of the dashboard.  Only a couple of quid and it was brill for new chicks.  They've now graduated to news paper and shredded paper.  These legbars are a lot more flighty than my orpies were.

Good luck with your chicks. You'll do well with them because you care!

I wish I had got mine much younger I feel they wouldn't be so flighty and easier to handle, so i think you are doing the right thing and you will get more out of them.

You need to try and get rid of the poo, I would moisten some cotton wool or similar in warmish water and hold it on poo to soften it. Then carefully remove bits of poo, be very careful as it will be stuck to the skin and could bleed if poo not softened enough :)
