Hi, about 6-8 weeks ago i took a cutting off a redcurrant bush on my neighbours plot(with his permission) it has rooted and been repotted,and now stands about 12" high,and a picture of health.Shound i pinch out the growing tip to encourage side shoots,or let it do its own thing.Secondly when do i plant it out to fend for its self.At the moment it is in a large pot(flower bucket size),outdoors.

At that size I've always just let my plants do their own thing and when they're near bearing age, then they get pruned. Sounds like yours is old enough to find a permanent outdoor spot now so it can adapt to the light and soil conditions as well as spread roots. Just keep it well watered for a few months until it's well settled in.

Hi Trillium,any idea when it will begin to fruit,2-3 years?

Probably year after next, depends really, could be the year after.
I bought a three year old red currant and it fruited a bit the first year I planted it, planted Feb fruited august, its just gone ballistic this year. and fruited loads.

I just leave all mine to do as they please, dont bother cutting them
