We have recently acquired three ducks and a small pond for them. When changing the water can it be used on the veg plot for watering directly or does it have to be disposed down the drain (heaven forbid!)

I have a large duck pond and pump out the water every 3 months or so -- it goes on my potato patch or on the grass or around the fruit trees as does the sludge from the bottom -- I see no harm in it but would not put it on anything eaten uncooked eg lettuce or strawberries etc.
Just my own opinion.

I have a small pond and the water form that is used to water the veg patch and everything grows like it has rocket fuel under it. I'm never organised enough to sort out proper feeding but it never seems to matter. Have to say I put it on everything.
