 Can Anyone tell me please about Cardoon's.  i've seen them in the back of a veg book but it did not say if you can eat them or not.  or do anyone grow them in the uk

They germinate really easily if that's any help  :wub: I ended up with loads although I've given some away & managed to kill off a few.  Yes you can eat them like a globe artichoke or grow them into an amazing flowerhead apparently.  I don't know what they're like to eat I'm growing them purely because i like the sound of the name

The stems are edible once the fibres have been removed and they are boiled but if they were good to eat you'd be able to buy them in a supermarket/shop somewhere  ;)

I tried blanching the stems of cardoons once (a bit like celery) to make the stems more tender & less bitter, but the slugs loved hiding in the cardboard blanch material & feasted on the stems as they pleased. They still tasted horrible though anyway. I didn't know you could eat the flowers like artichokes too, they do look very pretty though & bees love them.

Soapy watered mine an hour ago when it was cloudy, artichokes and foxgloves got a spray too  :D
