My courgette leaves are white.
« on: June 30, 2012, 18:52 »
I have 8 courgette plants and on 4 of them most of the leaf is now white. It scrapes off if I scratch it. Is this going to kill my plants and is there anything I can do about it?

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Sounds like mildew to me. Take the infected leaves off, it can be controlled with a milky water spray, not sure on proportions but I know there are posts on the forum telling you.I shall have a hunt....  :)

Sorry YG, I tried to edit your link because it broke the page but it seems to have been deleted.

Click the little globe type icon underneath the italic symbol above the text box.  That brings up [/ url]

Paste your link after the first url so it looks like and then put a name for the link between the two sets of brackets

You were too quick Yorkie...

yorkiegal when my Courgettes get it (every year), it does look a lot worse than the picture Yorkie linked too. By now should have learnt how to slow its onslaught...

And now unsure what yorkiegal's missing post will reveal  :D

That white pattern is normal leaf markings for some varieties  - my Striato d'Italia is exactly the same every year.

This is mildew
which usually shows up later in the season, when the ground is dryish.

MOS beat me too it this time...

Mine look like that as well at the moment, not mildew but does seem normal for them.  After the recent weather it's almost as if they are suffering from either wind or sun scorching as down here we have had a fair bit of both this week.  :)

Don't feel silly. That is a very easy mistake to make.

The leaves are not first produced with those white marks but develop them as they mature.  It really does look like a fungal disease.

Mine aren't currently big enough to have developed that colour pattern, and at the rate they're going they'll go straight into "mildew mode"!  :nowink:
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

You're doing well JayG mine are going into "mildew mode" and not at all big. If anything most have shrunk since I first planted them out.

I think this will be the year Mrs Plots does not sigh when I bring yet another bag full home.

So desperate I've even planted a couple just inside the greenhouse by the door.
