« on: May 24, 2011, 23:07 »
picking up few pieces tonight at Tesco and my hawk eyes spot some strawberry plants in plant section. 3 plants  for £1.75 and in good condition.

some where lanky from lack of light but a good 10 minute rumage and picked 2 packs that looked very healthy and lush . dont know if thats good value but thought would spread the word

strawberry type is elsanta

they had other things like peppers and chilli's including scotch barnet but they looked rather sad and lifeless

I noticed today how they'd got all these plants INSIDE the store, they don't know how to look after things!

And its Scotch Bonnet, not Barnet!  ;) ;)

I think "Scotch Barnet" sounds more fun (barnet = hair).

Seems common that many (but not all) of the big stores employ people who are obviously not gardeners to look after their plants.

Should be grateful I suppose as, after a quick sift through, it's often possible to find some at  reduced prices that can be saved.  ;)

...and people who aren't librarians to look after their books

...etc

BUT most of us still buy meat and fish and poultry and groceries form them

As sadly there is often little choice - they have under-cut local small businesses causing them to close. Our fault for shopping there? True but in this area many people cannot afford not to.

Sad thing is they would make just as much or maybe more profit if they reduced the prices to start with and sold greater volumes rather than waiting until they have to cut the prices to sell and need to dump half their stock.

(Come back Mr Woolworth... all is forgiven... at least you originally had the right idea!)
