so sorry about this thread but i just have to ask.
Why do i hear that most peeps who keep chickens go around picking up the poop?
I know i am EL THICKO.. 
I have had my girls for a week today, and i just try to wash it away with the hose, mostly because i didn't want the dogs eating it lol.
I can't imagine picking it up as it's thickish and smells hahaha!!

hahahaha, well i pick it up once maybe twice a day, i just feel it keeps there area cleaner and keeps down the flies, my girls area is all grass so i just pick up the harder ones as it were, all those smelly yucky runny ones i just leave until they dry out and then pick up or i water them down. nickyx

we all poo pick to keep the place clean and keep the flies away. In the hot weather the poo dries quite fast so it's not a horrible job. I pick poo from their coop every day and bung it in the compost bin just to keep things nice and clean as you don't want fly blown hens.  Where your girls are foraging and pecking you don't want them pecking in their own faeces.  Also it makes sense to get rid of them as you'll end up wearing them if you try and mow the grass without clearing them up first
