What joy!  Couple of soft eggs last week, but today perfect eggs.  Wasn't expecting them to start so soon.  :)

Bluey started just before Christmas, Sprout last week and Sooty today.
I have been giving them extra protein (dog food) as Sooty was using Roberta as a source of protein (plucking and eating the feathers)
Only problem is I can't remember where the empty egg boxes are.  :D

wish mine were - fed up of buying eggs. Think I shall have to buy some younger hens this year.
Staffies are softer than you think.

I'm down to 9 hens now and an ancient cockerel. 3 haven't laid for several years, one's coming to the end of her laying days, and I'm sure the others are taking it in turns to lay as I'm only getting 1 egg a day >:(

7 Hens and only getting an occasional egg. I have whispered that there may have to be some redundancies, never made any difference.

Been lucky this year, no eggs to buy and having boarders who adittedly laid few, have managed to keep my neighbour supplied too. Got our first white Shumen egg yesterday for months.

But I have at least three habgers on.

I have 2 young ones back in lay and even my old lady of 6 years old has produced a few on and off  ;)

I hate buying them , the yolks are flat and yellow compared to my bright orange yolks and there supposed to be free range  ???

Hopefully mine will remember what their job is soon!

Although I only have pekins now, so I guess they are going to wait a little bit longer!

:tongue2: to everyone who has chickens that are laying eggs!

H :)

Mine have also stopped laying.  I have even resorted to mentioning that I have some great chicken recipes, but they called my bluff. ::)
Cheese makes everything better.

Roberta, the pekin, has looked at the nest box, but hoping to to put some more fertile eggs under her and her "daughter", a maran, has yet to start. Very surprised that 2 had started, but the plus side is that the local shop sells local eggs which have a 3 and a 1/2 week shelf life.

Heey!  An egg!  I looked it up and the egg process starts with sunlight in the eye.  They were sunbathing a bit the other day so must be true! :)

One of my 7 year old's laid an egg yesterday  She hasn't laid for a couple of years and if I hadn't actually seen her do it I wouldn't have believed it.
