Thought we had got rid of the mite with Diatom but they have come back - AGAIN.  Is there another product I could try that is better or should I just stick to using Diatom repeatedly? Does everyone dust their chickens too?

The best way of getting rid of RM is elbow grease I'm afraid.

If you have a wooden coop, you will need to take it apart, give it a good soak with a detergent like poultry shield, let it dry and then paint the inside with a slurry made out of diatom, detergent and a couple of drops of disinfectant, like Vanadine 18.

You will need to repeat on a weekly basis for at least 1 month, in order to break the life cycle of the RM.

Hi Penny, I've never had red mite but I do dust my girls (I have Diatom in a puffer bottle for this) and I also put Diatom in their dust baths.

diatom is a good preventative but is unlikely to get rid of red mite on its own.
