Nearly time for me to get the chickens. Was wondering If there's any special way that they're supposed to be transported or can they just be put in the back of a van "loose"?

An ordinary cardboard box from the supermarket (with air holes in the top) will keep them secure and quiet. An old bit of towelling will stop them sliding around.

I bought a hen box, which is a purpose made cardboard box for moving hens short distances. It holds three young point of lay hens and cost £2. It lasted longer than the life of all my hens and took them all back and forth to the vets, allotment, friends for holidays, etc and it was still in good fettle so I Freecycled it on    Worth every penny

If you put them in a box, don't allow to much room for movement, you don't want any broken legs.  But not too cramped or they could suffocate.
