I have grown some turnips, some of which are fine and dandy, but others in the same bed have split and on inspection are a horrible mush inside.  Any ideas what this could be?

The weather has caused it. When we have a very dry spell followed by lot's of rain the root swell's so quick it split's.

and then rot or the slugs n other squirmies make it yuk inside
