Hi,
I understand it is good to dig in broad beans plants when they have died for green compost.
However, towards the end of their life, mine went a rusty colour. Is it safe to use as green compost?

That sounds like chocolate spot which is a fungal disease. Definitely not a good idea to dig in or compost the plants. Ideally they should be burned but check first to make sure what you're dealing with.
