One quite possibly numpty thing that has been puzzling me on this thread - if there is no water, how do you guys get water to your plants?

Privately managed council site.
£15/year per plot (roughly 10x30 yards, some over-size plots on the corners/ends pay more)
No facilities, no water - use the river that bounds one side of the site or capture your own rainwater from shed roofs.
No livestock, always lock the gate.

Parish council site, Only real rule is no fruit trees otherwise just keep it worked and tidy, no water or facilities but beautiful views and peace and quiet. £15 a year for full plot.
Water butt off shed roof for water (if really hot I take water up in lemonade bottles -lots and lots in boot of car!)
Worth every penny!

Same on our plots. Presumably because a fruit tree is somewhat more permanent than cabbages and if or when a potholder moves on, a fully established fruit tree is a PITA to remove!!!

Our plots are run by an association and 5 rods, a shed, greenhouse and water costs £22.50. Equipment including fuel is free to use. Plots should be kept manured, free of weeds and used although some plotholders (inc me) don't always manage it!!!! I'm giving it one more year before deciding whether to just plod at home in my own raised beds.

Spot on, quite sensible if you stop to think about it, our allotments have the same rule.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

No tree rule is also due to the amount of shade they cast on neighbouring plot's.

Not sure about this fruit tree thing several of my neighbours have been happy to take on plots because they have inherited mature apple trees.  If you give someone the choice they can have a plot without if they want. I was chuffed with my free rhubarb patch.
my trees are down the bottom where they only really shade the road.

£20 a year - that's for 18 rods and water (roughly every 5 plots has a tap next to it), and the use of the huge weed disposal area that gets burned each autumn
