Anybody still got sweetpeas?

I picked these today, not so many flowers on them, but there are still new leaves and flowers opening up.  I've never had them this late before!

Not a good picture, but I took this at the beginning of the month.  I just planted what sweetpea plants did come up along my fence, and they went mad!

did you start them off last autumn or in the spring?

Sowed in the spring Rosemary, and lots were saved from last year's plants.  I was really surprised at how well they did along the fence.  My friend said they are not very tall are they? but that's because they are wound along the fence, and keep growing out at the back of it too!

i still got a few going but haven't bothered picking them.

have got lots of seed pods - should I pick them and bring 'em indoors to dry or will they 'self seed' if left to their own devices outside?
Gardening organically on chalky, stony soil.

i'd imagine any mice would eat the seeds if you just left them fall to the ground in an attempt to self seed

No sweet peas but my asparagus pea plants are still flowering, shame the fruits tasted so yuk as they look so unusual.

I must admit that I get more germination from the seeds I collect and re-sow, than I do from any self sown ones.

And Mashauk, I grew some asparagas peas this year for the first time, hubby wasn't impressed, but they were quite nice, steamed, then mixed with a little cream and chopped mint.  My daughter liked them!!

Well I froze loads of them (I never chuck anything out unless it's gone bad, even then I salvage what I can, must be my Yorkshire upbringing :) ), so I'll try out your recipe when I have some people over, I thought they were so pretty and wanted to show them off cos I'd never seen them  before, I suppose I thought they'd taste like Asparagus which I love, but they seemed really bland to me!

Not sure what they'll be like after freezing Mashauk, perhaps a bit too floppy?  but I'd try it yourself first before inflicting it on friends!!!! lol  If, not, you can alway chuck a few in stews and casseroles, add a bit of colour and goodnes, but tastes the same as the rest of the stew!!

Yeah I'll try it first!  If in doubt, likey you say I'll bung them in a soup or stew, I did look them up and it said you can freeze them after blanching.  Tonight I'm having home made butternut squash soup, I'm afraid to say my next door lottie neighbour gave me the squashes as mine didn't exactly grow properly, they were green striped and looked like small marrows, and were tasteless, should have taken a photo and sent it to the seed supplier really!  Was really disappointed as have never grown squashes before and got so excited until someone pointed out that they were growing nothing like anything they'd seen before

I only tried pumpkins for the first time this year, got 2, one was the size of a golf ball, the other the size of a melon.  I forgot to cut it for Halloween, and when I looked the other day it had started to shrivel up, so I cut it up and gve it to my POL's they loved it!!! lol
