whats happening to my toms?
« on: July 17, 2012, 15:55 »
every day i check the greenhouse i find another handfull of toms on the floor.
they are going grey and soft at the tops of the fruits, not all just some on my red alert toms.
(the other varieties are only flowering so far)

these 2 take all my time, whatever is left the veggies get, poor hubby is at the end of the queue.

looks like blight to me - what are the plants like?  Do the stems have a reddish brown tinge on them?

It could be botrytis rather than blight.

We got botrytis in our polytunnel toms a couple of seasons back, just due to combination of weather and overcrowding causing lack of air movement. :(

Still feels like such a waste though...

Pick off everything that's affected, leaves & fruit, and pull up any plants that have grey mould on the main stems, as you can't save these :( Dispose of foliage do not compost it.

Increase the air flow in the greenhouse by keeping doors and windows open, with a bit of luck the plants will be ok........keep an eye out for any more mould and snip it off as you see it.
