mildew advise
« on: July 14, 2012, 17:14 »
My courgettes have finally got mildew. Last year I sprayed them with milk but it had little effect. Is it worth cutting the leaves off or is that just a waste of time?

Is there anything else one can do?

Having said that having the plants slow down a bit in their production may not be altogether a bad thing  ::)

Courgette risotto..courgette bread..courgette soup..roast courgettes.. courgettes in the stew..............

Frankly I just let my courgettes get on with it, irrespective of disease ...
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

that is what I hoped someone would say. There is enough to do as it is at the moment.

Do courgettes always get mildew?

It's rather early in the season but mine always get it by the end.

If the leaves go completely crumpled and covered, it's probably worth taking off the worst ones as they probably aren't that productive, but if you take too many off the plant won't have enough leaves to produce energy.

I had it on my courgettes last year.

Didn't really affect yield.

I cut off the leaves that got really bad

Happens to mine too. Avoiding the leaf when watering may help but with this rain it's pretty irrelevant. I always have more courgettes then I can handle though.
